Are You A Backslider?

Are You A BacksliderGod ask, “Are You A Backslider?” (Hosea 4:16, 11:7, 14:4)  In this message, William illustrates what backsliding is and is not.  He deals with the characteristics and cause of backsliding.  Using stories of backsliding from the Bible, William shows how devastating it is to be a backslider. But, praise God, he also shows how to overcome backsliding and return to God.

What Is Backsliding?  It is not being a hypocrite. Hypocrite is used 28 times in the new testament and it always refers to a religious but lost person: Pharisees, Sadducees, and Herrodians. No, the backslider is not a hypocrite.

The Backslider is not someone who has lost their salvation.  Some folks believe when you backslide, you lose your salvation.  But, the Bible says, those who are saved have “everlasting life.” It you have God’s true salvation, you can never lost that.

A Backslider is a Saved Person who falls into sin and quits serving God will their whole heart.  Are You A Backslider?

What Are The Consequences Of Backsliding?  Backsliding brings the chastising of God.  God always judges sin in the life of a Christian. He does so, because is forming and molding each believer into the image of Jesus. (Hebrews 12:5-6) “And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as children. My Son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him. For Whom the Lord loveth he chaseneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. No chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous; nevertheless afterward it yeildeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.”  This is why a Christian can not sin and get away with it. God judges sin in the life of a Christian.

The Cure For Backsliding. (Jeremiah 3:12)  “Return thou Backslidding Israel, saith the Lord; and I will not cause mine anger to gall upon you.” If a Christian will turn from his sin and return to the Lord, it will shorten the hand of God’s judgment.

The Conclusion. A Christian can sin but a Christian can not live in sin nor practice sin. When a Christian sins, it brings God’s judgment. If he will repent, God will restore him.  If he will not repent, the Bible says, “there is a sin unto death.”  A Christian can die prematurely if he continues his rebellion against God. If a person lives in sin, and God does not chasten him, all that means is, he is not a true Christian. He is a lost person and he will go to hell, unless he gets “born again”.
